The Churchill Minecraft Championships

This week Student Council ran a Minecraft tournament for the first time. In light of COVID-19 and social distancing protocols, Student Council is continuing to work to come up with a number of new ideas and strategies to engage the general student body.

The tournament took place on Friday, February 5th from 5:00-7:00 and was streamed for students to watch live on Twitch. Participants used the Java version of the PC Minecraft game for gameplay and a facilitated Discord call to communicate with one another. Churchill students were provided an opportunity to meet new people while simultaneously playing a fun, yet highly competitive game! Sixteen of Churchill’s greatest gamers competed in pairs to be the Champion and winner of $30 in Amazon gift cards and SWC Minecraft Trophy. In the end, it was grade 8 duo Oscar Kwok and Jonathan Shi who claimed the title of SWC 2021 Minecraft GOATs as 60 live Twitch viewers spectated!

Student Council would like to thank all who participated in the tournament. The students of Churchill can expect to see more Student Council run Minecraft Tournaments coming up in the next few months.
